Ichikawa - Disaster Strikes

Ardija's young forward Masahiko Ichikawa is expected to be out for a period of three months after being diagnosed with an injury to his right foot. The 23-year-old, who has moved into serious contention for first team action this year, picked up the knock in the late stages of the first half of Sunday's 3-2 win over Gamba Osaka. He had been playing well alongside Naoki Ishihara, but Ichikawa's enforced absence makes it more likely that Denis Marques will come back into the starting line-up following his own recovery from long-term injury.

Awful news. I have only been following J-League for five weeks (work-related) but the squirrels have quickly become my favourite team. The fact that they have probably the best blog has also swayed me :)

I'm not confident about the Frontale game, but all in all I think Omiya will be one of the success stories of the season. Top six place a definite possibility, perhaps more.

Cheers for a great blog.

Thanks once again, Stu, and congratulations to you on your sense of style and good taste. Whereabouts are you, if you don't mind me asking? Send an email if you'd prefer to take it offline.

Very sad news indeed for Ichikawa, though. Apparently he was crying in the dressing room as the medical guys were getting ice on his foot. He was in the first team squad in 2008 after graduating from university, but hardly got a sniff under the previous coach.

We met him at training and he seemed like such a nice kid, very committed and very keen even though the fact that he was scoring bucketloads for the satellite team wasn't translating into first team opportunities.

Hi furtho,

thanks for the reply.

I'm a Middlesbrough (don't laugh) fan living in London. Have spent a few years living in Asia, but not Japan sadly. Would love to get over there sometime.

I have a question, if you don't mind. I'm looking for a site that lists the referee appointments for J-League games. In particular, Urawa-Kyoto this weekend. Don't suppose you have any ideas?

Cheers,

Stu

Dunno about your query, Stu. You could have a click around the previews on the news sites that are linked to from here, or try Js Goal, but I've never noticed that sort of information being available much more than an hour or two before kick off (not that I've really looked).
