Slogan, New Uniforms Unveiled

As well as the squad list, Ardija on Saturday released details of their official slogan for 2010. A boring old copy of last year's, it translates roughly as Sing Orange Heart: Stronger, Higher, Deeper and is intended to continue paving the way towards - don't laugh - the Squirrels' ongoing target of winning the J-League in 2011. Here at GGOA it has to be said that there is more enthusiasm for our own recently-released slogan, TENTH IN '10!!, which as well as being grounded in something approaching reality also has the advantage of being a simple, appealing and above all cheap design.

On to the new uniform, and after the success of 2009's Under Armour design it was clear that despite the high cost to supporters the club were unlikely to change suppliers. This time the stripes have been done away with, but adding to the plain orange is a sweep of blue-and-orange from the bottom left of the shirt. What do you think? I quite like it myself, although the away shirt - which apart from being white instead of orange is exactly the same design - is a whole lot less successful than last year's groovy chevron. It does look as if there is a nod towards cutting costs, though, in that so far only details of a replica uniform at Y15,600 have been issued, rather than 2009's more expensive authentic version.

While the whereabouts of Korean midfielder Park Won Jae is as yet unknown, coach Jang Wae Ryong introduced the incoming players for the new season. In the photo below, left to right on the back row they are: Kazuhiro Murakami, Ahn Young Hak, Yuki Fukaya, Daisuke Tada, Takashi Kitano and Shusuke Tsubouchi. On the front row from left to right are: Masakazu Kihara, Jun Kanakubo, Jang and Arata Sugiyama. The Squirrels' target for 2010, bearing in mind that last season they were aiming for an Asian Champions League spot, is reported to be fifth in J1. TENTH IN '10!!

An article in Yahoo quotes club president Seigo Watanabe as saying that Omiya's target for the league season ahead is fifth place or 55 points.

I really like the new kit but I guess they will be asking an astronomical price tag. Why are JLeague jerseys so damn expensive? Also the new slogan is horrible as usual. Can't wait to get back to Nack5

I think I can be the bearer of some modestly-sized good news, Daniel. Last year Ardija and Under Armour only produced what was described as an "authentic" uniform, but for this season they have so far only announced details of a cheaper "replica". This is priced at Y15,600, which actually works out at about Y3000 less than 2009.

That is still incredibly over priced! I refuse to buy the Toronto FC jersey priced at about 10,000Y which is the official match jersey. I picked up the ultra cheapy one for around Y4,000.

Well, as I paid the equivalent of about $27 Canadian to go behind the goal at an English FIFTH division match between Christmas and New Year, I'm philosophical as to how these things work.

That's insane! You should go watch MKDons reserves aren't they free?

Funny you should say that, because the game I went to see involved AFC Wimbledon - I have a couple of friends who are big fans and years ago I used to go and watch Wimbledon fairly regularly when they were in the Premier League. So as a consequence of that, MK Dons are literally the last team on earth that I would go and see.

Ahh fair play! I just thought they would be your local but that makes total sense not to go!
