Soccer Digest Have Their Say
So 34 commentators for Soccer Digest magazine have made their J1 predictions for the 2010 season and, what a surprise, if you put them all together into a single list the Squirrels are in the relegation zone. Four of them even have us dead last, although former Verdy - and indeed Incheon United - star Masakiyo Maezono saw things more positively and went for Ardija ending up in ninth. But generally it's more of the same sort of thing that we get every year. Here's the full Soccer Digest ranking:

Hi, I´m from spain, and i an omiya supporter. But i have a question, Why our team have a name in spanish?? Ardija is a Squirrel in spanish language.

Hi Diego, welcome. I can answer part of your question, but not all of it. The squirrel is a symbol of Omiya City bcause lots of squirrels live in the large park where Ardija's stadium is located. However, why the club chose to use a Spanish word rather than Japanese, English or any other language... who knows?
